This script counts the number of days remaining until any annual occasion on the calendar (ie: birthday, Christmas etc). It automatically detects and adjusts to the present year, and if the specified occasion has already passed this year, it displays the days remaining until the next year's. Very cool and useful!

Certain situations call for the refreshing of the webpage every few seconds/ minutes (such as a webcam page). Use Brett's script to carry out this task in a graceful, "visual" manner.

Allows you to place a countdown to any future date of your choice on your website. The one on this page is programmed to display the time left for christmas. I have only tested it on internet explorer 6, however, it should work on 5. the format of the pareters year, month, day, hour, minute is yy, mm, dd, hh, mm. Feel free to modify the functions to your own liking. The script currently gets its current date from the client, a truer way of implementing a countdown to any particular date would be to somehow obtain it from the server.

There are basically two types of JavaScript countdown scripts, depending on what you're trying to do. The first type counts down using the time of the visitor's computer, which obviously varies depending on the visitor, and is great for counting down to "relative" events such as Christmas, your friend's birthday etc.The second type counts down using a specific local time (ie: Time in New York), and is great for counting down to "absolute" events where the target date/time is tied to a certain time zone, such as the launch date of a web site, the date/time of the next Solar Eclipse etc.
